GARLAND (CBS 11 NEWS) – Ruben Porras was on FaceTime with his wife when a tornado picked up her car and tossed from an overpass on I-30 in Garland.
“She screamed and screamed and her phone went blank” said Porras.
27-year-old Petra Ruiz, mother to the couples 4 young children, had an app on her phone that Porras used to find her.
He says he rushed to the scene ran through flashing lights and emergency workers until he found her car.
Petra was still inside.
“I grabbed her hand and started talking to her”, said Porras. “I said, Petra, wake up.”
Petra Ruiz died at the scene along with 7 others.
“And I grabbed her wrist, to see if she had a pulse, but she was gone”, said Porras. “She was just gone.”
