DETROIT (AP) – So, a Michigan university has decided, without holding a presser, that about a dozen words and phrases are problematic and should be banned. And there are no plans to walk it back even if the announcement breaks the internet.
Still, everyone can be a stakeholder and join the conversation.
Northern Michigan’s Lake Superior State University on Thursday released its annual List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness. This is the school’s 41st year of compiling the list.
The tongue-in-cheek wish list comes from suggestions submitted to the Sault Ste. Marie school.
This year’s list includes many of the grating terms used above. Check out the entire list of words nominated for banishment by members of the public.
– So (to start a sentence)
– Join the conversation
– Break the internet
– Walk it back
– Presser (instead of press conference)
– Price point
– Secret sauce
– Giving me life
