PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) — Leo Mota, who was driving on I-30 when an EF4 tornado hit Garland last month, died in a Plano hospital overnight, police say. Mota is the ninth person who has died in connection with the tornado.
Garland police said 15 people were taken to local hospitals after the tornado hit on Dec. 26, including Mota. The 35-year-old Garland resident sustained a major brain injury and had been on life support at the Medical Center of Plano.
When the tornado hit, it threw 17-year-old Jose Oviedo Juarez from Mota’s truck, killing him.
The owner of Leo’s Lawn Service was a husband and a father of four.
