The armed robbery happened Friday around 3:22 p.m. according to investigators at the Shell gas station near Lovers Lane and Hillcrest Avenue.

Investigators said the mother was pumping gas when the suspect approached her and demanded her purse. At some point, the suspect held a knife to the child’s throat who was sitting inside the vehicle.

Police said shortly after the robbery, the suspect attempted to use a stolen credit card at a department store. Investigators were able to pull security footage of the person they believe is responsible and the car she used to get away in after the robbery.

“I thought since living here, it’s supposed to be safe. That it was okay to walk around like later at night,” said Gillian O’Mailley, a University Park resident.

“I guess it can happen anywhere and you need to pay attention no matter where you are. Even if you’re in University Park,” said Sarah Myers, a University Park resident.

All of this comes just a few days after police said two men and a woman reportedly attacked, pepper-sprayed and tried to rob a woman at nearby North Park Center mall.
