FORT WORTH (CBS11) – A Keller ISD music teacher lost everything in a North Fort Worth apartment fire just hours after leading students to state awards in San Antonio.

“I just look out the window and it’s bright orange,” said Amanda Cox. “And smoke… pouring in.”

Cox was about to step into the shower at the time and escaped with nothing but her dog and a towel.

“I didn’t know what else to do,” said Cox. “It was terrifying.”

Cox teaches music for Keller ISD and Baylor University.  She has a doctorate in Clarinet Performance.

She lost all of her music and instruments, including the clarinet she uses for work.

Her renter’s insurance is still being processed and the instrument is much too expensive to pay for out of pocket.

Her friends have started a GoFundMe account to raise her the nearly $8,000.
