DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Dallas police arrested a man they say injured his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, who later died from her injuries.

Emory Lee Cobb III has been arrested for injury to a child, a felony, according to police. Police say the 24-year-old had been living with the victim’s mother, his girlfriend, at the time.

Police responded to 4600 Bryan St. for a reportedly unresponsive victim on Wednesday. Police say the 2-year-old, Nivea Mack, was taken to Baylor Hospital, where she was examined and then transferred to Children’s Health Hospital for treatment for a “closed head injury.”

Police say detectives from the Dallas Police Department Child Abuse Unit began their investigation at the hospital and found that Cobb was responsible for the child’s injuries. He was then arrested.

Nivea died from her injuries on Friday, according to police.

Cobb is being held in Lew Sterrett Justice Facility on $150,000 bond.
