DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas police have started an internal investigation after a racially insensitive picture showed up on social media.

The leadership of the Black Police Association of Greater Dallas asked for the investigation after a picture depicting a group of white people standing next to a white man in blackface, tied up with a rope and a noose around his neck, was posted on Facebook. The individuals in the picture are giving a thumbs up.

According to news reports the picture was taken at an office party in Russia and spread online.

“As police officers, we have to be fair and impartial. We have to enforce the law. And we cannot profess statements and comments and beliefs that show an anti-bias attitude or group of people,” Lt. Thomas Glover of the Black Police Association of Greater Dallas told CBS11 Thursday night.

At least two Dallas Police officers allegedly made comments indicating support, claiming it is simply humor.

“As police officers, we have to be fair and impartial. We have to enforce the law. And we cannot profess statements and comments and beliefs that show an anti-bias attitude or group of people,” Lt. Thomas Glover of the Black Police Association of Greater Dallas told CBS11 Thursday night.

In a statement, the union said the picture is offensive and despicable and should not be tolerated. They want to know what, if any role any Dallas Police Officer may have played in the post.
