WYLIE (1080 KRLD) – A Plano man responsible for a crash in Wylie that killed a volunteer firefighter and two children, was in the country illegally, but was deported before.

The crash occurred last Thursday and shut down State Highway 78 in Wylie. Authorities say a van traveling south on Highway 78, driven by Margarito Quintero, 33, swerved into the northbound lane, striking the car. It was not clear what caused the van to swerve.

KRLD has learned that Quintero didn’t have a licence and was in the United States illegally. He was previously arrested and deported in 2008.

Captain Peter Hacking, 36, and two of his children, 4-year-old Ellie and 22-month-old Grayson were killed in the wreck. A fund was set up for Hacking’s family to help with funeral costs and expenses for his children.
