“Straight vandalism,” says homeowner Julio Jauregui.
Jauregui says his home in the High Pointe neighborhood hasn’t been hit… yet.
“We go around our property… check our cars every morning just in case,” says Jauregui.
He hopes security cameras trained on his property will be a deterrent. Meanwhile, police insist that the damage is no small matter.READ MORE: Texas Mother And Son Arrested In Wyoming For Murder In Oklahoma
“This is no joke. These fence panels are expensive,” says Cedar Hill Police Lt. Colin Chenault. “And the amount of panels that are having to be replaced is adding up…it’s like in the thousands of dollars.”
The tagging is very similar. The vandal has spray painted variations of the word ‘ghost’ on panels that border the High Pointe neighborhood, as well as on pricey fences on private property. Now, police want to put a name on this ‘ghost’ before he or she strikes again: and they have every reason to believe that that’s the plan.
“Once these fence panels are replaced, within a day, it is typically repainted again,” says Lt. Chenault. “Some of these panels have been tagged and replaced multiple times.” Investigators say the frequency of the attacks suggests that the culprit lives nearby.
“Such a short time goes by, it tells us that chances are, this person is in the area and seeing that their work has been replaced.” According to police, the tagger could be charged with criminal mischief or graffiti, depending on the dollar value of the damages.
“It’s childish really…whoever it is,” says Jauregui, who suggests finding a pastime that’s less destructive. “Play some basketball. Run a mile. Do something better with your life. Don’t go around messing up the neighborhood.”MORE NEWS: Southlake Ranks 20th 'Best Small City In America'; Keller & Flower Mound Most Affordable
