DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Finding a rental car in Dallas is nearly impossible for anyone with hail damage. Unless, that is, they’re willing to pay for luxury.
When Mark Roney woke up last month in Plano to find his Porsche 911 riddled with dents, he called Exotic Skittles in Addison. The agency specializes in luxury cars.
“You just got to be willing to pay,” said employee Luke Schlensker. Roney picked out a Bentley. “Just driving it puts you in a different mindset,” he said.
Renting it costs $850 a day. Roney said, his insurance covers about $500 a day, leaving him to pick up the $350 difference. When a second hail storm came through this week, he had it parked under a tree. He was relieved it escaped any harm.
“The car in front of it, the car behind it had hail damage,” he said. But Wednesday morning brought heartbreak. “It’s like losing your girlfriend,” he said showing the damage to the left side panel.
“I got hit by a woman unfortunately who didn’t yield properly,” he said. Now he’s out another luxury car. “I’ve got a broken Bentley, broken Porsche,” he said.
His next rental, he says, will likely be more practical. “Probably an SUV, at this point,” he said. “I need to save more money.”
