WYLIE (CBSDFW.COM) – As stormy weather approaches North Texas, people are still recovering from the hailstorm earlier this week. Residents in Wylie say “severe weather” are two words they don’t want to hear.
For the last several days residents in one neighborhood have been hard at work making repairs. Up and down city blocks in Wylie you see homes with tarps on the roof and boards covering windows. Many homeowners say they’re still cleaning up water damage.
Today was the first Saturday storm victims had to get as much work done as possible, unfortunately it’s also the last chance they’ll have to patch up any holes that could leave them vulnerable as another wave of storms move in on Sunday.
Some residents say they’ve done all they can, as far as repairs are concerned, and now it’s just a matter of monitoring the forecast and waiting.
Folks say a big part of the frustration is not knowing how much heavy lifting to do in anticipation of a new round of damage. Lauretta Campestre said she has been at the mercy of her insurance company’s busy schedule. Now she says, with the surety of storms, she doesn’t mind being toward the back of the line.
“So at this point the conversation we had with the claims adjuster this past week was ‘please get out, hurry up and get out’ because we wanted things fixed. The conversation I had just yesterday in preparation for the storm that’s coming is, ‘why don’t you hold off ’til Friday’ because we don’t know what’s going to happen Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday ’cause this rain is coming now again.”
Most Wylie residents stood determined to make the most of the daylight they had left, to get as much work done as possible.
