DALLAS (KRLD RADIO) – The Dallas Street Choir has launched its first music video, called “Homeless, Not Voiceless: The Climb.”

Choir music director and founder Jonathan Palant says the pop tune, which was originally recorded by Miley Cyrus, takes on new resonance and meaning in the voices of people who have been living on the streets of Dallas.

“It’s been a cool thing to look at songs through a new lens, seen thorough the eyes of homelessness and the extremeley disadvantaged,” he said.

Members of the choir are hoping the video goes viral and gets a million views or “likes.”

Palant, who also serves as the musical director for Kessler Park United Methodist Church, launched the Dallas Street Choir in 2014.

To help with the effort Palant partnered with The Stewpot, a homeless resource center in downtown Dallas, for rehearsal space. He estimates some 800 people have participated in the choir so far.
