She was 13-years-old and very experienced in the water, but something happened at a swimming pool in Southlake that led to Elise Cerami’s death.
Elise was in the North Texas Nadadores club — an advanced swimming club and was a member of the Nadadores Navy Elite team.
Investigators say it was around sunrise on Monday morning when Elise was found underwater and unresponsive at the Carroll Independent School District Aquatics Center, on West Southlake Boulevard.
Elise was pulled from the pool and swim coach Bill Christiansen immediately started CPR as dozens of her teammates stood by. The teenager was taken to Baylor Medical Center Grapevine and then to Cook Children’s Medical Center by air ambulance but did not survive.READ MORE: Red Cross Hoping To Increase Blood Supply With Opening Of New North Texas Donation Centers
Those who knew the teenager could only talk about their friend and how much they cared for her. Shivani Challakonda said, “She’s a bright personality. The second you meet her, she’ll latch onto you and always be there for you.”
Soleil Singh had a hard time fighting back tears. “She meant a lot… so much fun to be around… she always pushed me to do my best.”
Shortly after EMT’s left with Elise in the ambulance, swim coach Christiansen collapsed. He was taken to Baylor Regional Medical Center suffering symptoms of a heart attack. He underwent surgery and is expected to be okay.
The Carroll ISD Aquatics Center, which is on the campus of Carroll Senior High School, was closed Monday and will remain closed today.
Elise Cerami was a student in the Carroll ISD and would have been a freshman at Carroll High School in the fall.MORE NEWS: Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President To Step Down Following Trading Disclosure
