ELLIS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – A helicopter has crashed in Ellis County according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office killing two people on board.

The Ellis County Emergency Management director says the aircraft went down in a field in south Ellis County near FM 876 north of Bell Ranch Rd near the towns of Bell Branch and Italy around 11:50 a.m.

The twin-engine Bell 525 helicopter was on a test flight from it’s Xworx facility in Arlington. The aircraft was destroyed.

Bell Helicopter released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

“This is a devastating day for Bell Helicopter. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our teammates and have reached out to their families to offer our support. Bell Helicopter representatives are onsite to assess the situation and provide any assistance to local, state, and federal authorities.”

Images from Chopper 11 show rescue workers at the scene of the crash. Debris could be seen scattered around the field near where the craft apparently crashed.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting the investigation.

The Bell 525 Relentless successfully achieved its first flight on July 1, 2015. The company posted the following video to YouTube.
