NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The DPS trooper shot in the leg at the Texas-Mexico border last Friday has returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

DPS spokesperson Lt. Lonny Haschel said Trooper Danny Shaw is in a local medical facility and in good spirits.

Haschel said Shaw and his family are, “humbled and grateful for all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes from the community. As they focus on healing and returning to their lives, they ask for privacy.”

According to DPS, Shaw was struck in the leg by what appeared to be an errant bullet that came from the Mexico side of the border across the Rio Grande.

Shaw has been with the Texas Highway Patrol for more than eight years and is stationed in Terrell in Kaufman County.
