NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The DPS trooper shot in the leg at the Texas-Mexico border last Friday is now out of the hospital.

DPS spokesperson Lt. Lonny Haschel said Trooper Danny Shaw was released from the hospital on Wednesday and will continue his recovery at home.

Haschel said Shaw thanked the community for the well wishes as he and his family focus on the healing process.

According to DPS, Shaw was struck in the leg by what appeared to be an errant bullet that came from the Mexico side of the border across the Rio Grande.

Shaw has been with the Texas Highway Patrol for more than eight years and is stationed in Terrell in Kaufman County.
