PROSPER (CBSDFW.COM) – Police in one North Texas city are approaching unsuspecting drivers and handing over something different — holiday well wishes and gifts.
Officers with the Prosper Police Department are watching closely for drivers who are obeying the laws instead of breaking them.
Once a law-abiding citizen is spotted officers approach the already stopped vehicle and reward the safe motorist with a $10 gift card and words of thanks for following law.
This is the sixth year the police department has had the Safe Drivers Program. And there’s no impact on the budget since the program is funded entirely through donations.
Officials say they do it to “bring some holiday cheer by saying thanks to those who follow traffic laws.”
