DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Three Dallas elementary schools now have new names.

The Dallas Independent School District’s school board voted on Thursday night, approving the new names for three campuses previously named for Confederate generals.

Stonewall Jackson Elementary School will now become Mockingbird Elementary School.

William L. Cabell Elementary School will become Chapel Hill Preparatory School.

Robert E. Lee Elementary School will become Geneva Heights Elementary School.

The names were chosen by committees made up of parents, teachers and other community members. In each case, the school board voted unanimously to accept the names that had been chosen.

All three of the new names are based on the areas where the schools are located. The newly dubbed Mockingbird Elementary School, for example, is located along Mockingbird Lane.

Albert Sidney Johnston Elementary School is also set to receive a new name by February, the deadline set by the district for all four schools. The board said that it chose to move up the vote on schools for which names had already been selected, in order to allow them to begin implementing the change.
