ITALY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – An Italy officer was struck by a vehicle Monday morning on I-35E, police say.

According to the Italy police commander, the officer was moving debris off the road when he was struck.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the officer was parked on the shoulder and that traffic was slowing down as the officer worked to remove the debris. According to DPS, for some reason, a pickup truck went into the side skid and struck the officer.

The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the pickup was not injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.

Italy is about 40 miles south of Dallas in Ellis County.
