Fireplaces and fire pits – one keeps you warm while you’re cozied up inside in the winter, the other makes outdoor bars slightly more awesome. No matter what, these fire features make a bar stand out from the pack, and can make an atmosphere something special.

Fire Pits

I’m partial to fire pits myself, so we’ll start there. Outdoor fire pits are places to congregate – sitting around a pit with your friends, drinking a few beers – there’s really nothing more relaxing. Sure, there’s the utility of keeping you warm in winter, but even in the summer, fire pits are still the hot places to hang.

The hands-down best place to find a fire pit in Dallas is at Lee Harvey’s. In addition to multiple picnic tables around the stars of our show, they have a huge outdoor patio, great beer list and delicious burgers to boot. Live music on weekends provides some additional entertainment, usually with no cover charge. Need another incentive? Bring man’s best friend – dogs are more than welcome to hang out on the patio with you!

If you’re in Uptown and are in the mood to sit around a fire pit, hit up the Nodding Donkey. Almost all of the bar is actually outside, with a patio and an open-air interior, so you might want to wait until later in the fall to check this one out. No matter what, the Nodding Donkey wins approval with beers served in mason jars, and plenty of screens for all your sports-watching needs.

And now, fireplaces. Places to put your feet up, relax and warm back up during the approximate 4 weeks of Dallas weather when it’s actually cold. Cosmo’s in East Dallas has just what the doctor ordered – a fireplace surrounded by comfy couches, delicious cocktails and one of the best jukeboxes in town.

Closer to downtown, Three Sheets has a welcoming atmosphere, and decor that makes you feel more like you’re sitting in a library than in a bar. The fireplace provides a warm backdrop to the bar’s cozy menu, featuring thin crust pizza (protip: pizza is free on Mondays!).

And lastly, the ultimate, the cream of the crop. The best of the best, with a combination of an indoor fireplace and an outdoor fire pit, so you can get your pyro on all year round – the new Cedars Social in South Dallas. This mid-century modern space has a circular fireplace inside, perfect for enjoying their seasonal cocktails and elegant menu. Outside on the side patio, fire pits provide some added warmth for those who choose to enjoy their beverages outdoors.
